March in March: Mud, Mayhem & Misbehaving Horses

This weekend was meant to be my big “call to action” — riding, walking, training…the whole motivated package.

Instead, I had a lesson on the sassiest horse alive, who spent the entire time reminding me she had zero interest in my plans. I left soaked, exhausted, and fully aware that the horse was the one in charge.

Sunday was meant to be calmer. We took the dogs to Apley, and I proudly wore my new shiny walking boots — the ones with the lovely white soles I had big plans for. My husband decided the first trail was “too muddy,” so we took our “safer” usual route… which turned out to be a full swamp experience.

My beautiful boots? Gone. Sacrificed to the mud gods. I did not cope gracefully.

But after dodging puddles, hopping through swamps and giving dramatic weather commentary, we finished a 2‑mile loop with two happy dogs.

And genuinely — can I claim extra mileage for all the acrobatics required to keep myself upright?

Jodhpurs, Judgemental Animals & Just Trying My Best

So it begins - This weekend I survived a sassy horse, four stables, one wheelbarrow meltdown, two mud‑loving dogs, and a two‑mile rain march… all fuelled by stubbornness and a pub cider.

Support my March in March

This year I will be taking on March in March to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking on March in March to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support and together we march!
