Thanks to All My Sponsors!

Thank you so much for sponsoring me for last Saturday's charity walk for Combat Stress (sorry for the slow follow up - I have only just started recovering! 😂)

It was a very challenging day - we were aiming to complete 25 miles in around 8 hours, walking from Cromer pier to Wells-next-the-sea lifeboat station. Well we nearly needed lifeboat/medical assistance before we even got halfway 😱🥶, the north sea wind raging directly at us with sea spray, rain and sleet pounding us most of the way. Add to this walking around 10 miles on a shingle beach, which was like walking in quicksand, and our 25kg backpacks nearly drowning us in the shingle and forcing us to crawl up the hills and cliffs (OK, slight exaggeration), I think we did well to walk over 20 miles.

With just over four and a bit miles left unfortunately we had to carry out a medical evacuation, that being me! I have had a dodgy right knee for years, it only took one bit of a slide down a shingle embankment and that was me out of the walk. We had to call in our back up team of my wife, her sister and brother in law (Frances, Helen and Alan, thank you all for your back up support), from whichever hotel bar they were lounging in to come and recover me.

Nigel also suffered an injury to his neck and jaw due to constantly turning round to check how far behind I was and laughing so much at my swearing and complaining 😁

Shame in the end, so close but so far. However between us we raised over a thousand pounds for a worthy charity with the help of all you wonderful people, and we had some laughs on the way, mostly Nigel laughing at me 🤣

Attached and following are a few photos of Two Old Blokes at the start of the walk at Cromer pier, a couple during the walk, some of the dangers that confronted us, and my strapped up knee at the end!

We are editing a couple of video clips (unfortunately some of my language about the weather is not publishable!), and we will send those out in the near future.

Not Long Now - 2 Weeks Today!

TWO OLD BLOKES: Please Support our March in March!

This year we (me, Dave, and my old mate Nigel) will be taking on March in March to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

On the 28th March we will be walking 25 miles of the North Norfolk costal path from Cromer Pier to the lifeboat station in Wells-next-the-Sea. With a combined age of 140 years between us - this will be a challenge!

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking on March in March to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need. When I left the army in the 1980's, PTSD was not really recognised in the UK as a 'thing', therefore there was no treatment. Like myself many ended up as total basket cases, or even worse, like 3 of my mates who unfortunately took their own lives. I don't want todays 'modern veterans' to end up the same.

Thank you so much for your support and together we march!

My New Boots!

I decided to get a new pair of boots for my walk, I was very pleased when they eventually arrived. However my happiness did not last very long!
Left foot in left boot - check - feels good.
Right foot in right boot - check - arghhh, the boot is crippling me, I can't even take 2 steps!
She who must be obeyed moaning about sending the back blah blah blah!

Then I suddenly remembered my old army training about checking the inside of the boots for scorpions and nasty spiders etc. And guess what I found, yes you've guessed it - a rogue piece of packing paper - panic over!!!!!!!!

Important kit for Marchin in March!

This is probably the most important bit of kit for my Marchin March.

Not because I plan on falling off a cliff, or getting attacked by sealions, but for the beating I'm going to get from my walking partner Nigel because I can't keep up! :)

Ready to March in March!
