The Human Disco Balls Are back!

After a few years away from fundraising, the Human Disco Balls are going to be swapping the midnight streets of Old London town to take on the Surrey Hills on what we are hoping will be a very Good Friday!

The Disco Balls are joining the massive annual Combat Stress March in March fundraiser to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

With multiple fundraisers taking place all of the time, we wanted the make the 10-mile march challenging to make sure we work for the donations, hence tackling the hills and dales in the beautiful Surrey Hills.  Current levels of fitness will require proper training to get the legs and lungs working!

We will keep everyone updated on our training as well as lots of pics and videos on the day!

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

We are taking on March in March to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support and together we march!

And the total keeps growing …

Sunday 31st Mar
Thank you once again … and sorry (not sorry) for another #marchinmarch post … but I am still smiling 🥰

I wanted to use the epic Don’t Stop Me Now track for the music on social media but the FB powers that be wouldn’t allow!

This little montage is for the memories and it is to round off the month and the end of March … and what a high to go out on …

Happy Easter and still a few hours until the end of March … 😜😜😜 …  https://bit.ly/3ImHhuj

Thank you Rebecca Stevens - you are awesome xx

We did it!! And blasted our target!!

Saturday 30th Mar
WE DID IT!!!

12.5 miles for #MarchinMarch and I kept my helmet on the whole way 😂

We got bibbed at along the route, we were called spacemen, moonwalkers and astronauts by little kids 😂😂😂

We’ve have many chats with folk along the way talking about the amazing work of Combat Stress.

I know it isn’t a marathon in terms of distance but my goodness it was hilly and muddy and slippy and … did I mention hilly!! 😂😂😂

Beki sent bitesize chats along the way to friends at Trans Radio UK who are going to feature us on a programme with the lovely ladies who are veterans 🏳️‍⚧️

We’ve had incredible support along the way with a hot cross buns and coffee delivery provided by the lovely Fiona Meadows  at Denbies Vineyard and then we were met by our awesome support team at the end - Hazell Dean (80s pop legend!) - the lovely hostess Alex and Anwar - Deano came too and we missed Sam and Mike by a whisker but thanks for coming along 🥰 it meant so much 🥰

Ok - now this is the biggie … at the end of the walk we’ve raised more than I posted on social media yesterday- we are now up to £1117!!!

Thank you everyone who has been more generous that I ever hoped for!! We started with a target of £350, which we increased to £500 and then to £900!

Put into context and what it translates to for our veterans - this amount means that you have all helped two veterans with PTSD to recognise, understand and use their emotions to live the life they want in our 'Master your Emotions' programme.  Thank you so much 🙏🏻

We drove home and I was sitting in the car pretty emotional ….

Thanks to my awesome Disco Ball buddy Beki - we kept each other giggling along the way - and we’ve put the world to rights.

An Epsom salts bath, bottle of fizz and fish and chips for Good Friday was calling and with a serious high calorie and step count - it felt very deserved.

Really proud of us as well as thanking the weather gods - it’s been a lovely day - nothing like sunshine when you are wrapped in tinfoil style clothing 😂😂😂

Still time to contribute as the challenge runs until 31 March! 😜

Let’s just hope lightning isn’t forecast 😳

Tuesday 26th Mar
Let’s just hope there isn’t any lightning at the top of the hill … given we will be wrapped in foil!!

🪩💦☔️☔️

Rebecca Stevens …. Bet you are glad you offered to join me!?! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

It seems that another year - another #marchinmarch is destined to be a wet one …. The silver ponchos are on their way here …

Last year it felt like we walked wrapped in cling film 😂 - this time we are hill walking …

So whilst only 10 miles which is a decent distance - but no ultra marathon - this is going to be a challenge!!

Hoping folk can hear the proverbial “donation bucket” shaking over the rain and the crinkly ponchos 😂

Also - let’s hope there is no lightning at 1000ft up - given we will head to toe(ish) in silver 😳 lightening!!!

Two weeks left to go …

Thursday 14th Mar
So … we haven’t walked together for our training but in our own way we are getting there. With shocking weather, the indoor spin bike on high resistance in the standing position is having to be kind of “hill walking!”

One of the final parts of our Disco Ball outfits has turned up - the silver rucksacks - however it appears that they are designed for my miniature 3kg dachshund!! I reckon we can fit in  tic tacs and a gel sachet for sustenance!!

To be on the safe side - we have notified the space agencies and warned them to be aware of the shine emanating from the Surrey Hills in a few weeks … we don’t want to cause any interstellar issues 😂😂😂

Anyway … onward and upwards and a MASSIVE thank you to our amazing sponsors so far … you make it worth it!! Thank you 🥰

It starts tomorrow …

Thursday 29th Feb
The Human Disco Balls (HDBs! 🪩) will start training and fundraising for March in March in earnest as of tomorrow as soon as March kicks off …

The route has been planned and the outfits are being dusted off (and polished!) from the last outing a few years ago …

We are excited - and nervous - in equal measure.  10 miles will be achievable (with training) however the hills will be challenging!

We are looking forward to taking on the challenge all in aid of Combat Stress.

Many thanks.
