Pilgrimage for March in March

As many of you may know I am an Afghan veteran and I enthusiastically support any efforts to improve mental health services to veterans from both the Regular and Reserve Forces.

This is something that has become even more important to me since I have sadly lost three friends and colleagues to PTSD related suicide in the last 18 months.

What most of you probably dont know is that I am also a pilgrim.

This year I aim to combine both of these aspects of my life to help support the charity ‘Combat Stress’. This charity provides vital support to veterans in crisis.

Each year the charity runs a ‘March In March’ event that encourages people to March/TAB/Yomp (choose your preferred term) and secure donations.

The general format is a ten mile march in the U.K., but this year I will be doing something a bit special.

I will be undertaking a week long pilgrimage to the Shrine of St James in Northern Spain. This is known as the Camino de Santiago.

There are many routes but the one I will be taking is the Camino Ingles from the port of Ferrol to the Cathedral of Santiago, which is the route that was traditionally used by English pilgrims.

The route is around 120km (though given my famously poor map reading skills it will likely end up being significantly longer) over a variety of terrain.

My goal is to visit and pray in as many churches as possible en route. I have been training for this for the past few months with some fellow pilgrims on UK based routes and have already clocked up an additional 100km.

I would be really grateful for any support and donations you can make. Every pound we raise will help a veteran suffering from mental scars that were earned keeping us and our country safe.

Thank you so much for your support - it is truly appreciated.

Best wishes,
Jamie

Support my March in March

This year I will be taking on March in March to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking on March in March to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support and together we march!
