We are back!
That time of year is here again where I’ll be taking on March in March in support of Combat Stress — and this year feels particularly significant.
This year is both my 25th and final year of service for me in the Armed Forces. Like many who’ve deployed in the same operational environments I have, my tours were filled with some interesting experiences, some highly challenging, and some that will stay with me forever for very different reasons.
I don’t often talk about my personal MH experiences openly, but I’m mostly comfortable doing so if asked. I was fortunate — I received the support I needed, both professionally and closer to home. I’m not “cured”, and there are still some dark moments, but I’m in a far better place to manage it and am not afraid to face it.
I’ve taken part in this event a few times now. Raven is back for her third year marching alongside me, and this year Mowgli will be joining us for the first time — he’s got big paws to follow!! The event target is 10 miles, but we’ll be aiming to go well beyond that.
Last year we raised a fantastic amount for this cause, and I’d love to see if we can do even better this year. If sharing a bit of my background helps raise awareness and reduces stigma around mental health in the Armed Forces, then that’s just as important as the fundraising itself. If we can raise some money along the way… bonus.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for any support — whether that’s a donation, a share, or simply checking in.
And as always:
If you’re struggling, talk. Talk to me. Reach out. Talk to someone. You don’t have to carry it alone. 💜
