Walking for Those Who’ve Served: Our Paris Charity Walk for Combat Stress

This March, my daughter and I will be taking on a charity walk through Paris together. It’s something we’re genuinely looking forward to — time together, a challenge, and the chance to do something meaningful — but the reason behind the walk is what really matters.

We’re walking to raise funds and awareness for Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity supporting veterans with mental health conditions.

Why Combat Stress matter's

For many veterans, the end of service doesn’t mean the end of the battle.

Combat Stress supports former servicemen and women dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and other complex mental health conditions that can arise from military service. These are often invisible injuries, but they can have a devastating impact on individuals and their families if left unsupported.

The charity has been working with veterans for over a century, providing specialist, evidence-based mental health care tailored specifically to the experiences of military life. Their work fills a critical gap — helping people who may struggle to access or engage with traditional mental health services.

What Combat Stress actually does

Combat Stress provides practical, life-changing support, including:

  • 24/7 mental health helpline for veterans in crisis
  • Clinical treatment programmes, both residential and community-based
  • Specialist PTSD therapy delivered by clinicians experienced in military trauma
  • Long-term recovery support, helping veterans rebuild confidence, relationships, and independence
  • Support for families, recognising the wider impact of mental ill-health

Importantly, this support doesn’t stop after a single intervention. Recovery from trauma takes time, and Combat Stress stays with veterans for as long as they need it.

Why we’re walking together

Doing this walk with my daughter makes it especially meaningful. It’s a reminder of perspective — of the everyday freedoms we enjoy, and of the sacrifices made by others to protect them.

A long walk through Paris is a small challenge compared to what many veterans face daily. But if our effort can help raise funds, start conversations, and encourage even one person to seek support, then every step is worth it.

How you can help

By donating, you’re directly supporting veterans who may be struggling silently — helping them access expert care, regain stability, and move forward with their lives.

  • Every contribution counts, no matter the size
  • Sharing this page helps spread awareness just as much as donating
  • Talking openly about mental health helps break down stigma, especially around military trauma

If you’re able to support us, thank you. And if you’re a veteran reading this who may need help — support is available, and you don’t have to face things alone.
