Every little helps.
First 5k around the local estate. A huge thank you to my fiancée for getting me out the house to do this. Set my benchmark now to improve upon as the weeks tick closer to the charity run that Tori and I are doing.Baby steps!
After much abdication, and with some help from friends, I’ve finally gone out on my first tentative running steps. Feel like I have a hell of a long way to go before I’m confident of completing this challenge, which is proof of how challenging this is for me. Started at just less than a mile to get the joints moving, heart rate going and mainly to kick myself up the arse. I won’t lie, I found it tough and quite nervous of reaching the milestones I need to but it all starts somewhere. Thank you for the support so far.The beginning
It all started by my fiancée tagging me into a Facebook post whilst deployed on Op AZOTIZE. A Combat Stress D Day fundraiser. I thought I would read it properly later. Then she messages me asking what I think about it. The options are 22 mile walk, 22 mile run or 44 mile run, to be completed in 12 hours. I asked her which one she was thinking about (hoping she would say 22 mile walk), she said the 44 mile run (I died slightly inside). Stupidly, and after very little thought, I said yes, then decided to actually work it out. Those who know me know my disdain for physical training, my lack of fitness and my love of sleep, so when I work out that the average is 3.7 miles per hour to complete 44 miles most people would say that was simple but for me, it is an absolute challenge. But the real reason I want to do this is to fundraise for Combat Stress. I see more posts than I should about servicepersons who suffer from mental health problems and this charity does amazing work to help. So when you think about sponsoring me, don’t think that you’re sponsoring my challenge, think that you are raising much needed funds for a charity that helps those who have sacrificed a lot for the freedoms we enjoy.Support my D-Day Challenge
In honour of our forefathers as well as current servicemen who have bravely fought to protect our way of life, I will be taking on the D-Day Challenge to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.
The D-Day 44 Challenge commemorates the 1944 Allied invasion of occupied France. I will be heading to Normandy, to race across its picturesque beaches, finishing at the historic Pegasus Bridge on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, 6 June 2024.
Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.
I’m taking on D-Day Challenge to help take vital strides towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.
Thank you so much for your support.
