Mamores Speed Challenge for Combat Stress

Challenge (almost) Completed

We were up in Scotland this week waiting for a suitable weather window to complete the challenge.

Unfortunately the rituals we carried out to try and please the Scottish weather gods were not seen as favourable (with one sunny day a year they’re a tough bunch to please) so we set off at 6am on Tuesday 6th August knowing that waterproofs would be required for the afternoon’s efforts.

In the end, we managed to bag 13 of the originally planned 15 summits with the last two proving insurmountable due to the wet rock and our old (and aging) bones.

We can’t thank you enough for all the donations, they’ll make a significant difference to a worthy cause.

Combat Stress

You are unlikely to have heard of the life-changing work carried out by Combat Stress unless you have a relative or friend who has seen active military service.

When some military personnel leave service, their experiences can’t easily be left behind. For over a century, Combat Stress has helped former servicemen and women with some of the most complex mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading veterans' mental health charity and the work they do is life-changing and often life-saving.

To raise money for this incredible cause we are planning to navigate some stressful situations (see photo of route) during a suitable weather window in August by starting from sea level and summiting 15 mountains (over 3,000 ft) in less than 12 hours.

The planned route in the Mamores, Scotland is just over 34km in length and will include over 11,000 ft of vertical ascent which is roughly the same vertical distance between Everest Base Camp and the summit.

As a 65 year old grandad and 33 year old new dad we are hardly the peak of physical fitness and will need all the motivation we can get so, if you can, please give generously to support the transformative work they do.
