Running for a Cause: My Leicestershire Half Marathon Journey with Combat Stress

Hello,

As most of you know I served in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer for 6 and a half years from the ages of 18 to 24. During this time I got to know the realities and experience first hand of how current serving personnel and veterans are faced with the difficulties of mental health and the impact it has on the individual and on their families too. I want to bring some awareness to it and raise money for such a great cause.

The Leicestershire Half Marathon is more than just a challenge, it’s an opportunity to support those who’ve served our country and ensure no veteran faces their battles alone.

Please have a read below of what a great charitable cause combat stress is and learn about the impact of combat stress.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

Every pound you raise has a direct impact:

  • £43 could fund a veteran’s call to our 24-hour helpline.
  • £159 could cover a one-to-one session with a psychological therapist.
  • £260 could support a peer group meeting, giving veterans the chance to connect and heal together

Combat Stress operate a 24-hour Helpline 0800 138 1619 and is available to all veterans and their families for confidential mental health advice and support. We also have a range of online self-guided resources, to help veterans with a variety of mental health difficulties, including: PTSD, depression, anxiety, anger, and alcohol and substance misuse. These guides have been created by our specialist clinical team, in partnership with veterans. Guides are also available for veterans' families and employers of veterans.
