Challenge Complete

This morning I completed my 70th swim and finished the challenge. I have enjoyed the challenge and the cold water therapy has definitely helped with my mental & physical health.

Swim 67 Complete

Swim 67!completed at 7.15 am this morning. Just 3 more to go!

65 Swims complete

Just 5 more to go and I’ve done the 70 swims. Thank you to all who have supported me in this challenge.

Life, the universe and everything

Hit the magic number 42 today. Beautifully calm sea this morning.

I’ll be swimming on Christmas Day and Boxing Day as well.

Big Four Zero

Completed swim nr 40 this morning and we’ll on the way now.

Midday Swim

I swam at 1pm today to make it number 36, joined by my wife Charlotte and Nikki, from Ballywalter Swimmers and Dippers, providing moral support.

Halfway Point

Completed my 35th swim this morning at 8am. Air temp 2c and sea temp about 10c.

Flat clam and beautiful sunrise - on the home stretch now.

Icy Today

Couldn’t swim today as working away but my wife managed to swim twice (she is at 34 now v my 32). Nothing like a bit of healthy competition.

So cold today that Charlotte had to pour warm water over her feet as soon as she got out of the sea.

I’ll be back swimming on Monday and now have some catching up to do.

Chilly swim 31

Air temp was just 1.5c this morning at 8am but completed swim 31 to a beautiful sunrise in calm water.

Nr 30 with Company

Air temp was just 5c this morning but sea was very calm and I had a couple of seals for company!

Getting cold now

Swim nr 28 at 8am this morning and air temp was 6.5c.

Just got to keep going!

25th swim , yeah !!!

I did my swim at sunrise and Charlotte did her swim mid morning today.
Such a change from yesterday. Tough going with waves, chop and current. Sea kept sending us towards the harbour (rocks). We both had swimming buddies so all good !

Afternoon swim

Managed to get in for swim number 24 today at 3pm - sea temp about 11 Celsius. Starting to get very cold now.

Aiming for nr 25 tomorrow at 8am.

Midday Swim nr 23

Charlotte joined me for swim nr 23 at lunchtime - another freezing 10 minutes swim.

Big thank you to Charlottes mum, Mrs Edwina Tester, who gave a £ 100 in lieu of Christmas Presents this year.

We have everything we need, so a very big thank you to Mrs Tester for her generosity.

8 am swim 22

Swam at 8 am this morning (28 Nov) as missed this weekend due to work.

21st Swim

We are both up to 21 now and Charlotte brought her mascot.

21 - Key to the door

Swam against lunchtime today to record swim 21.

No 20

8 am swim this morning to watch the sun rise - awesome!

19th swim

Thank you so much to all those who have donated thus far.
Your support is motivating my wife Charlotte and I to complete this challenge.

Couldn’t get in the sea this morning as dangerous conditions ( heavy rain and waves right over the footpath and smashing into the walls of the lime kilns and car park) so swam at lunchtime only.
Waves still big and current strong and getting very cold now 🥶
Charlotte found it a struggle as she still has a stinking cold but we are both thinking of the mental challenges of the service men/women we are trying to help. ( she said she thinks it helped bring her temperature down though 😂).
Tomorrow’s forecast ⚠️ for strong gales so have to make up for it this Friday by swimming twice.

18th swim -after the storm

This is me, Charlotte with team member Annie and our mascot elf on the shelf with his life jacket on. Just completed my morning swim with Annie as my swim pal. I have stinking cold and some waves and pull to swim against but so worth it when I think of those guys and gals I’m doing this for. No donation too small. Helps as keep going. Thank you so much 😊 Planning a double swim tomorrow 8 and 13 hr yikes 😬

Midday swim 22 Nov 2022

My midday swim

Midday swim

Did our 18th swims today. Charlotte in the morning and myself at lunchtime.

Saturday afternoon swim

Saturday afternoon (19 Nov) and off for our second swim of the day.

Sunday Group Swim

Completed another swim today with my wife, Charlotte, which takes us both up to 17 swims each.

Weather was very cold today, but at least the sea was calm. There is a yellow weather warning for tomorrow so we doubled up our swims this weekend to get a few more in the bag for when the weather gets really bad and it’s too dangerous to swim.

Photos to follow.

Sunday Morning Swim

Completed an 8am swim this morning. Sea was flat calm and the sun was just up and it was beautiful but bitterly cold 🥶.

Took an hour to stop shivering afterwards. Will be in again at 3pm today for a group swim.

13 - unlucky for some

Completed my 13th swim today in the rain and sea temp of 10 degrees c.

Hard work today (very cold) but not as hard as the challenge being faced by those with deep mental health challenges.

Please support the invaluable work that Combat Stress do.

12 so far!

Completed my 12th swim yesterday lunchtime - water was extremely cold but still managed 20 minutes swimming.

Swims so far

So far I have completed 9 (no wetsuit) sea swims of min 20 minutes each.

I’m well on the way to reaching my target of 70 swims by the end of March next year.

I am raising vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking on vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

I am taking on the Ice Legend Challenge to do 70 number 50m sea swims between 1 November 2022 and 31 March 2023.

Thank you so much for your support.
