Old Soldiers, New March Pub to Pub for Veterans’ Mental Health
John and I are old soldiers.
The knees creak a bit more than they used to, and we’re not quite as fast as we once were — but one thing hasn’t changed: looking out for our own.
That’s why we’re raising money for Combat Stress, a charity that provides specialist mental health support to former service personnel. Long after the kit’s handed in and the uniform’s hung up, the battles don’t always stop — and Combat Stress is there when it matters most.
The Plan: Pub to Pub (and Back Again)
We’ll be taking on a 10 mile march, following a proper route:
From The Royal Oak
to The Barford Inn
…and then back again.
A route chosen not just for the miles, but for the meaning. Familiar places, good people, and a setting where conversations happen easily — which feels fitting for a cause built around support and connection.
Carrying the Weight (Liquid, Obviously)
We won’t just be walking the distance — we’ll be carrying weight too.
With packs filled with tinnies - a bit of humour, and a reminder that this is about who we are now as much as who we were then.
And yes — we’ll be doing our best to represent the troops with our drinking skills. Strictly in the name of morale, of course.
Why We’re Doing This
Mental health challenges affect veterans in all sorts of ways, and they don’t always show themselves straight away. Combat Stress helps people navigate that reality with clinical care, understanding, and long-term support.
If we can raise £250 to help fund that work — through a walk, a few laughs, and a couple of sore feet — then it’s a march worth doing.

Support my March in March
This year I will be taking on March in March to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.
Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.
I’m taking on March in March to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.
Thank you so much for your support and together we march!
