Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. A charity which is very close to my heart, yet unfortunately not often spoken about amongst the wider community, and certainly not at all on government level. This year I will be taking on March in March to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans. I will carry out 25miles on 9th March.
In 2018 the rate of PTSD for veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan, raised to over 9%. For veterans who deployed to those war zones in a combat role. 17% reported symptoms of PTSD and over 30% were predicted to develop a mental health condition. These figures unfortunately continue to rise and will not include those who suffer in silence.
Anything you can donate is highly appreciated, not just by myself but those also seeking support from the charity (veterans or family). For context, below I have listed an estimate cost in which your donation will contribute to….
£24 could pay for a veteran to attend a Peer Support group meeting.
£58 could allow veteran family members to use our Family Support Service.
£120 could pay for an appointment with a psychological therapist.
To live in the body of a survivor is to never be able to leave the scene of the crime. I cannot ignore the fact that I live here.
