Rod's Story
Tuesday 27th JunMy partner Ryan and I will be doing a charity sky dive next year in June 2024, my dads birthday, to raise money for Combat Stress.
This is a cause that is especially dear to my heart, the story behind why I want to raise money for this charity comes down to one man, Rod Moore, my dad. He served in the army for 22 years, predominantly in the Royal Green Jackets but eventually made his way to the SAS for the last couple years of his army career. My dad was a completely unstoppable force and one of a kind. 10 years after leaving the military he was watching a documentary on Northern Ireland (one of places he served) which triggered server PTSD. He had many symptoms which included nightmares, sleepwalking, mood swings, he was irritable, and always on edge, a way for him to deal with these symptoms was to drink heavily. He delt with his symptoms this way for around 10 years, until one of my friend’s dad’s suggested Combat Stress to him, in which he was able to go away into a safe environment with therapist who specialise in PTSD treatment. It was somewhere he always spoke highly of as it almost looked and felt like a military base with likeminded people. After his second 6 week stay with them, he was doing so much better and even stopped drinking. Unfortunately, for my dad it was too late, he had done far too much damage to his body over the years and on the 5th of March 2019 he passed away due to organ failure which we believe was cause by the heavy alcoholism. I want as many service men and women to find help as soon as their symptoms start and ensure there is more funding for therapy and group sessions. If my dad had learnt about Combat Stress earlier in his journey, it could have made the word of difference to his physical and mental health.
