Seven days in and it’s going well every day I have completed the challenges of 100 km bike, 15km run and 2 km runI am raising vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.
Hi,
I’m Andy George, I served in the Royal Military Police for 13 ½ years. During that time, I served in areas of conflict which included Northern Ireland and the Balkans. I also had friends who I lost serve in Afghanistan and both Gulf Wars. It a sad fact that I lost friends due to war and conflict and I want to try and remember those that were lost and those affected by that loss or what they had to experience, which unfortunately includes myself.
I researched the service personal who were killed on operational tour while in one of the five mentioned areas and it numbers 2197*. I wanted to do something in my own small way to honour those fallen, utilising my passion of triathlon. Using 2197 as kilometres divided by 30 days, I intend to swim, bike and run a triathlon during the month of November. Due to me holding down a full-time job and just life, the distance will be split into two parts. The first 11days up to Remembrance Day will be a 2km swim, 100km bike and a 15km run. Then on the 12th a small rest day, then. For the last 18days it will be a 940km swim, 37.2 km bike and a 13.5 km run with 100% of the money raised going to the COMBAT STRESS FOR VETERANS’ MENTAL HEALTH charity.
Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.
I’m taking on vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.
