My 76km Challenge for Combat Stress
This November I’ll be taking on the 76km Race to Remember, running from Aldershot to Portsmouth to raise money for Combat Stress.
I’ll be doing it alongside two individuals I served with during my 10 years in the Army.
One of the hardest parts of military life can come not only during service, but after leaving the military altogether. Going from an environment where you’ve spent years surrounded by people with shared experiences to suddenly being outside of that can be incredibly difficult.
Over the years, I’ve known friends who have struggled after leaving, who have felt they had nowhere to turn, and unfortunately some who ultimately lost that battle. That’s something that stays with you, and it’s a big part of why supporting a charity like Combat Stress means so much to me.
Combat Stress provides specialist mental health treatment and support to veterans when they need it. Knowing that there is somewhere to turn, and people who understand, can make a real difference.
On a personal level, this is also going to be a serious physical challenge. I’ve completed marathons and ultra-distance events before, but it’s been nearly 15 years since I’ve attempted anything like this. I’m older and certainly not as active as I was back then when I was serving as a PTI, so I suspect 76km is going to be a bit of a reminder of just how long those 15 years have been!
We’ll set off from Aldershot at 0600hrs on 7 November 2026 and make our way to HMS Victory in Portsmouth. There’s more about the three of us and the challenge itself on our team page.
If you’re able to donate, whatever you can give would be hugely appreciated. If you can’t donate, sharing the page can help just as much.
