Support our March in March

We are Level 3, Year 2 Uniformed Services students at Uxbridge College, taking part in March in March to raise vital funds for Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health.

As part of our coursework for Unit 5 – Volunteering and Unit 7 – Mental Health & Wellbeing, we are completing a challenging 10‑mile march designed by our tutor, Jeff. Our route begins at Virginia Water, continues through the beautiful grounds of Windsor Great Park, climbs up to the iconic Copper Horse statue overlooking the Long Walk, and finishes at the historic back gates of Windsor Castle.

We are marching not just for our own development, but for those who have served our country and now face mental health battles that often go unseen.

Why This Matters

The mental health challenges faced by serving personnel and veterans are significant:

  • In 2024, 59 serving personnel died, including 31 from the Army.
  • Between 2003 and 2022, there were 287 suicides within the UK regular armed forces.
  • Young personnel under 20 and those in the Army have shown the highest suicide risk.
  • Although overall military suicide rates are lower than the civilian population, male suicide rates have increased since 2017, with higher risk among younger veterans and those with short service careers.
  • In 2021, 253 UK armed forces veterans died by suicide, accounting for nearly 5% of all suicides in England and Wales.

These figures represent real people, real families, and profound loss. They highlight why organisations like Combat Stress are essential, and why continued support for veterans’ mental health is so important.

Our Mission

By completing March in March, we aim to:

  • Raise awareness of mental health challenges affecting veterans
  • Support Combat Stress in providing life‑changing treatment
  • Build our own resilience, teamwork, and wellbeing
  • Honour those who served — and those we have lost

Your donations will directly assist veterans in receiving the support, care, and treatment they urgently need. Thank you for donating — your generosity truly makes a difference and may even help save lives.

Thank you for your support — together, we march.
