Honouring the Past, Supporting the Present: Lee and Doug’s Incredible VE Day Challenge

06 Jun 2025

We’re proud to announce our Challenges Fundraisers of the Month – Yorkshire Regiment veterans Lee Holmes and Doug Lincoln – whose extraordinary efforts this May left a lasting mark on everyone who followed their journey.

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Lee and Doug set out on a remarkable challenge: to travel from Richmond, Yorkshire to the Green Howards Memorial in Crepon, France. Their mission? Complete the entire journey in just seven days, completely unsupported – no pre-arranged transport, accommodation, or backup team. Instead, they placed their trust in the kindness of strangers, relying on the goodwill of those they met along the way for lifts, food, and even a place to rest their heads.

What drove them wasn’t just adventure – it was gratitude. The pair were inspired by the life-changing mental health support we provided to a close friend. Their journey became a powerful tribute, not only to the veterans of World War II, but also to those living with invisible wounds today.

Through every mile, conversation, and act of generosity, Lee and Doug raised vital funds and awareness for veterans’ mental health. Their determination and humility were a poignant reminder of the power of community, service, and remembrance.

Lee and Doug, your selfless effort has inspired us all. Thank you for being incredible advocates for those who served – and for those still fighting.

Feeling inspired? Take on your next challenge today to support veterans' mental health.
