volunteer faqs
How much time do I need to dedicate to volunteering?
As much or as little as you are able to. Even a few hours a month can make a huge difference.
What does the role involve?
Each one of the volunteering roles supports raising funds and awareness for Combat Stress and to find out more about each one please click here:
How can I get involved with events?
We are regularly approached by organisations and groups with requests to attend events to help raise awareness by manning an information stall. On occasion we also sell merchandise at the same time. Sometimes we are requested to attend to receive a cheque for monies raised through challenges and events. We also ask that you are proactive and look out for opportunities for Combat Stress to be involved in events in your local area.
What training and support is available?
There is online training to help you understand Combat Stress and what we do as well as our policies and procedures. Depending on what county you live in you will be allocated to one of our three Regional Fundraisers who will be in regular touch with you about news and events.
What qualifications do I need?
None, however, the roles require some checks to make sure we are in compliance with various bodies. For all roles, we will need a record of your personal details, a health assessment to make any reasonable adjustments while you're volunteering with us, and a declaration form with details of referees. We will need two references covering the last five years of employment, or a personal reference if there has been a break in employment. There is also an optional Diversity Monitoring form which is completely confidential and only used to get a better idea of who our volunteers are. As you may be involved in events at schools, youth groups or care homes and will be responsible for handling donations, we need to complete a Basic DBS (PVG in Scotland or AccessNI in Northern Ireland).
What resources will be available to me to raise awareness and fund raise?
Depending on the event you will be allocated suitable resources. We have presentations that can be adapted depending on the audience, there is literature and contact information as well as other training materials, all provided with the support of the Regional Fundraisers.
