Training

I probably won’t be constantly keeping you all updated with my training progress — mainly because nobody needs to see every single run I do! 😂

You’ll just have to trust me when I say I’m actually training… I’ll provide some evidence to support that claim. 😂

All I ask is that you pray I make it to June 2027 without picking up any injuries!

70 miles isn’t going to run itself… unfortunately.

70 Miles. One Wall. One Cause.

In June 2027, I’ll be taking on the Rat Race Hadrian’s Wall 70-mile ultramarathon in aid of Combat Stress.

If I’m being completely honest, this wasn’t something I had been planning to do.

My best mate took part in the event this year. Afterwards, he told me exactly how hard it was — and how, by the time he reached the final block of miles, they were absolutely hideous. Then, with what I can only assume was a temporary lapse in judgement, he asked me if I wanted to do it with him next year.

I laughed.

“No chance.”

But the idea stuck with me.

I started thinking about what it would actually mean to take on something like this, and more importantly, whether I could use the challenge to do something worthwhile. I realised that if I was going to put myself through 70 miles of hills, fatigue, pain and questioning every life decision that had led me there, I wanted it to be for a cause that genuinely mattered.

That’s when I chose Combat Stress.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

Having spent 10 years serving in the British Army, I know that the effects of military service don't necessarily end when someone leaves the forces. For some veterans, the battles continue long after they've returned home. Combat Stress provides specialist mental health support to veterans, helping them deal with the psychological impact of their service and move forward with their lives. Sometimes the battle can ultimately become too much.

So, in June 2027, I’ll be running 70 miles along Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for Combat Stress.

I’m under no illusion that this is going to be easy. My mate has already given me a pretty good warning about what awaits me — particularly those final miles.

But that’s exactly why I want to do it.

The training, the long runs, the sore legs and eventually those final few miles will all be a lot easier knowing that I’m doing it to raise money and awareness for veterans who may be facing a far tougher battle of their own.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how much, I’d be hugely grateful. Every contribution will help support Combat Stress and the work they do for veterans.

70 miles. One hell of a challenge. And hopefully, a lot of money raised for a very worthwhile cause.

Thank you so much for your support.
