One Step at a Time: Why I'm Walking 100 Miles This May

A little over a year ago, my life changed in a way I never saw coming.

Losing a leg isn’t something you plan for. It isn’t something you rehearse in your mind or imagine will ever become your reality. But it happened. And when it did, everything shifted—physically, emotionally, and mentally.

There were dark days. Days when getting out of bed felt like a victory. Days when the weight of pain, frustration, and helplessness made it hard to see a way forward. But slowly, I began to find my footing again—literally and metaphorically.

Relearning how to walk with a prosthetic isn't just a physical journey; it’s a mental battle too. Every step feels like a small rebellion against doubt. Every time I fall and get back up, I’m reminded why I started this journey in the first place: to prove to myself that I can.

This May, I’ve set myself a challenge: to walk 100 miles.

It’s more than just a number. It’s a statement. A declaration that I won’t be defined by what I’ve lost, but by how I rise.

But I’m not just doing this for me.

I’m doing it to raise money for Combat Stress, a UK charity that supports veterans struggling with their mental health. These are men and women who’ve faced unimaginable things—on the battlefield and back home. They’ve given so much, and many carry wounds no one can see. Combat Stress offers the help, therapy, and support they desperately need and truly deserve.

This cause hits close to home. Because while my battle may look different, I know what it feels like to fight for your sanity, your identity, your strength. And I want every step I take this month to help someone else find theirs.

So, I’ll walk. Through the good days and the tough ones. Through the blisters and the rain. For every mile, for every vet, and for everyone out there who’s trying to find their way forward after life knocks them down.

If you can, please support the cause. Donate, share, or just follow my journey. Together, let’s turn every step into hope.

I'm taking on 100 Miles in May for Combat Stress

This year I'm taking on 100 Miles in May to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support.
