100 Miles in May: Challenge Completed!

I'm excited to share that I have officially completed my 100 Miles in May challenge! I ran 102 miles through hills, valleys, and woodland paths. Along the way, I discovered new routes, explored local hills and climbed a total elevation of 15,793 feet, equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis 3.6 times (Ben Nevis stands at 4,413 feet)!

This challenge has been physically demanding and deeply rewarding, especially knowing it supports such an important cause. Your generosity has been genuinely overwhelming. Together, we’ve raised over £1,408 for Combat Stress, plus an additional £297.68 in Gift Aid. Every donation makes a real difference to the mental health support provided for veterans, and I’m so grateful for your contributions.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to donate, there’s still time! My fundraising page will remain open for a few months, so feel free to spread the word or donate if you can.

Thank you so much for helping me turn every mile into meaningful support!

100 Miles in May – Over Halfway There!

I’ve officially passed the halfway point of the challenge with 56.1 miles completed and just 43.9 miles to go before the end of May. Although a glitch on the system says that I have run over 4k miles! It’s been a mix of determination, sunshine, and a few unexpected bruises—literally!

The weather lately has been fantastic, which has made it so much easier to get out on the trails. I’ve been making the most of it, exploring new routes and really enjoying being outside. That said, the downhill sections have taken their toll—my longest toe has now gone completely black (TMI?) thanks to the impact, and my knees keep swelling up. Safe to say, I’ve learned my lesson and will go for the size 10.5 trainers instead of a 10!

It’s not all solo running though—Bramble, our very enthusiastic springer spaniel, has joined me for a few miles here and there. She absolutely loves it, especially when there’s streams, rivers and mud involved.

The support so far has been incredible. Every mile I run and every pound you donate helps veterans get the care and support they deserve.

Thanks again to everyone cheering me on. I’ll keep the updates coming as I push through these last 40-ish miles!

Week 1 Update

Today’s run was a tough but rewarding 6.59 miles, with 698ft of elevation and a time of 1 hour and 9 minutes. I set off down to the coast, followed the path along the cliff edge, and made my way back up through open fields. I’m taking part in the 100 Miles in May challenge to raise money for Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. They provide vital support to former servicemen and women dealing with issues like PTSD, depression and anxiety—many of whom have given so much in service and deserve the best possible care and compassion when they return to civilian life. So far, I’ve run just under 19 miles, and thanks to your amazing generosity, I’ve already raised £843, smashing my original target of £300 (which I had subsequently raised to £500)! I’m genuinely overwhelmed by the support—every donation is not only helping veterans get the support they need, but also keeping me motivated to put on my trainers and get out there. This challenge is proving to be more than just a fundraising goal. It’s an opportunity to explore my local area, push myself physically and mentally, and be part of something that truly makes a difference. Thank you so much to everyone who’s donated and cheered me on so far—I’ll keep the updates coming as I get closer to that 100-mile mark. If you haven’t donated yet and would like to support veterans’ mental health, it’s not too late—every penny really does help.

Do you know?

Did you know that according to research;

7.4% of veterans in the UK have probable PTSD.
* Veterans delay seeking help until they are at a crisis point, and the gap between leaving the service and seeking help is 11.8 years on average.
* Out of 17,521 referrals to Combat stress (2012-2022) 94.1% identified as male.  In the same period female referrals doubled to 5.4% until 2021, and then peaked at 17.4% in 2022.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! I am overwhelmed by your generosity and we have already beat my goal of £300. If you haven’t donated yet, then please donate what you can to help Combat Stress.  Every penny raised goes directly to support this charity and will mean that they can continue to support veterans mental heath.

I'm taking on 100 Miles in May for Combat Stress

This year I'm taking on 100 Miles in May to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support.
