The ride (273 miles) is completed and £4000+ raised!

Days 1-3 were in England with the contrasts of London and not only the 'countryside' but also the South Downs (or should it be South 'Ups and Downs'?).

Having crossed the channel on the 4th Day, cycling Days 4 & 5 were in France. The first of these was 'cycling for softies' on a former railway line converted to a smooth tarmac cycle ride. The second (5th Cycling Day) was a bit more hilly, though not in the same league as the South Downs sections.
On the 6th day route was from Gournay-en-Bray to Gisors. 

The weather has been sunny and warm/hot up until the 6th day when we had two enormous thundershowers, soon after I set off in the morning and just as I arrived at my destination! 

Days 7 & 8 have been free of rain but there has been a northerly wind.

Today was the final day (Day 9) tackling the complexities of the Paris road with Notre Dame as the finishing point.

The amount raised is now over £4000 and money is still 'coming in'. I am immensely grateful to all my sponsors.

I am raising vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

In retirement I have undertaken several long distance cycle rides to raise money for different charities. It has been some time since my last long distance ride because of Covid and neurosurgical operations. But I am back!  

I am undertaking the ride for 3 reasons:

1. I have seen at first hand the positive impact of Combat Stress, the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict. Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. By raising money with this ride, I am doing 'my bit' to ensure veterans get the support they need.

2. I intend to cycle the 250 mile Avenue Verte (https://www.avenuevertelondonparis.co.uk/). May 8th this year is the 80th Anniversary of VE Day and I have timed the ride to centre around this.

3. The ride will be a more of a challenge than my previous rides. My operations have left me with side effects which make cycling on a normal/non-electric bike less straightforward. Also, I am 76!
