2022kms for 2022

By Billie Grisdale

I am raising vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

As you all know, running isn't exactly my forte; the only time you will catch me in the gym is if there's a fire, a flood or a casualty in there. To that end, and because you all know how much I despise running, I've decided to run 2022kms over the course of 2022 (that's around 5.6kms per day) to raise money for Combat Stress.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

Whether you can only afford £1 or a little bit more, I would really appreciate any donations. I'm hoping to raise £2,022 over the next 12 months :). Thank you so much for your support! XxX

My Achievements

My Updates

Halfway there!

Sunday 31st Jul
This morning I have hit the halfway point and have 1009kms to go to reach my target :)

900kms Reached

Tuesday 12th Jul
So I'm still slightly behind schedule due to the 8 weeks I had off with Lyme's disease but I have finally hit 900kms! So far we've raised £982: I'll be so excited when we make it to the £1000 mark soon. Thankyou so much to everyone who has kindly donated so far.

I'm still suffering with some joint pain so mostly sticking to the treadmill for now as it's better on my knees but I have been putting some fairly decent distances in whilst I've been on leave to catch up a bit.

My daily target is currently sitting at 6.5kms every day until 31st December!

Day 165: Outdoor Run

Tuesday 14th Jun
Today I completed my first outdoor run since I've been ill and did a steady 11kms at an okay pace. It felt stronger than I did previously: it's amazing how much easier running is without bacteria in your joints! Thankyou to everyone who has sponsored me so far; I am now working to catch up on my target!

Day 145: Back to Work!

Wednesday 25th May
I've not been able to run for 6 weeks due to being ill with Lyme's disease but this morning I went for my first run back and managed 7kms.
It was a bit of a struggle but it went better than I expected.

Day 102: £830 raised

Tuesday 12th Apr
Hey everyone, apologies for the lack of updates; I've done a standard me and managed to contract Lyme's disease from a tick bite in the jungle in Guam last year! Got 3 weeks of antibiotics - only missed 3 days of running so far. I managed to run today although it felt stupidly hard, I'm hoping it will start to get easier once more of the bacteria in my joints decides to die!

Thankyou so much to everyone for all the donations, really appreciate it :)

Day 92: Over 500kms in

Saturday 2nd Apr
I am still just on track despite work massively getting in the way for the past few weeks. Am hoping I can use the next 3 weeks to get ahead so I have some kms in the bank when I get back onboard! Thankyou so much to everyone who has donated so far.

Day 63: £500 raised

Friday 4th Mar
Morning everyone, thankyou so much to everyone who has donated so far! I have now reached £500 in donations, which is around a quarter of my goal.

I am getting close to 400kms now: I am back onboard so having to use the treadmill so I'm mixing it up a bit with sprints to try and improve my overall speed. I have been going to the gym at 0530 every day since I got back to do 6kms before my day starts.

Day 49

Friday 18th Feb
I am now over 300kms in to my challenge! I've been running a minimum of 5.6kms, 6 days a week, mostly around Gosport, but also Flixton, Scarborough and once I go back to work next week, Portsmouth as well. I can't say I enjoy running yet but I'm getting more used to it and I've improved my pace by almost a minute in 6 weeks :) Thankyou so much to everyone who has donated so far!

Day 29: 177kms down

Saturday 29th Jan
Morning Everyone,
thank-you so much to everyone who has donated so far - this month we have reached £457 in donations to Combat Stress, a charity which provides vital mental health support to veterans.

I have run 177kms so far, so I am on track at the moment. I have been doing some interval training on the treadmill on weekdays to try and improve my speed then longer outdoor runs at the weekends.

1,845kms to go!

Days 1 & 2

Sunday 2nd Jan
Morning Everyone, thank-you so much for everyone who has donated so far - already over 10% of the target and there's still 363 days to go!

I have completed Days 1 & 2 with 2 outdoor runs at 5.6kms each. I won't bore you all on Facebook with daily updates but you are more than welcome to follow me on Strava and Instagram where I'm posting my run efforts! ☺

Thank you to my Sponsors
