Please Support my D-Day Challenge

In honour of our forefathers as well as current servicemen who have bravely fought to protect our way of life, I will be taking on the D-Day Challenge to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

On D-Day 1944, my Father, WO Frank Sweetlove RAF, was assigned to No.206 Sqn as a Wireless / Air Gunner on Liberator EV-988 flying anti-submarine patrols over Brest. This he continued throughout the month of June, completing a total of 17 sorties over the English Channel before returning to RAF Leuchars in July to fly anti-submarine patrols off the coast of Norway.

The D-Day 44 Challenge commemorates the 1944 Allied invasion of occupied France. I will be heading to Normandy, to race across its picturesque beaches, finishing at the historic Pegasus Bridge on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, 6 June 2024.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I served in the RAF for nearly 27 years, completing Operational Tours in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Whilst deployed and on my return, I witnessed at first-hand the impact on the mental health of those involved, and not only on those at the front line. I consider myself extremely lucky to return home and lead a normal life, but many others were not so fortunate and they need our help!

I’m taking on the D-Day Challenge to help take vital strides towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

I thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any support you are able offer will be very gratefully received.
