🇫🇷 Walking with Purpose: My Journey Through Normandy

This wasn’t just a holiday—it was a pilgrimage. Every step I took through Normandy was layered with intention: honoring those who served, reflecting on resilience, and preparing for my upcoming 36km Combat Stress challenge in November. My heart tuned to remembrance, I walked through history.

Gold, Juno, Sword Beaches & Pegasus Bridge: Quiet moments of reflection where the wind seemed to carry stories
- Many Memorial Sites - Each as powerful as the other
- Caen Memorial Museum: A powerful immersion into wartime memory and peacekeeping
- Local Markets: Recovery-friendly snacks, plum jelly discoveries, and cheese tastings

Week 3 - The pain

Sunday - 10km today. I hurt. I wore 5kg weighted vest and my camelback. It was a good walk though. Against the wind across Eastney Esplanade. Now to rest up.

Aside from today I have enjoyed power walking around Pompey. It's really a beautiful city when you have time to look at it

Week 2: One Step Closer to November's Challenge

The last week has been about embracing the climb - literally and figuratively - as I push forward in training for my 36km combat stress walk this November.

🌄 Buster Hill Bootcamp
I have taken on the slopes of Buster Hill in the last week and let me tell you, my legs knew all about it!  The steep incline was perfect for building my stamina and testing my mental grit.  The views from the top?  worth every drop of sweat.
🚶‍♀️ Scenic Strolls Around Rowlands Castle
To balance the intensity I ventured out with colleagues to give me a mix of terrain and beautiful backdrops - ideal for checking in with my pacing and recovery.  Its nice to have moments of calm among the hill climbs.
🚵‍♀️ Coastal Spins to Southsea Seafront
I also swapped my walking boots for the bike and hit the promenade twice this week. Cycling to Southsea gave my legs a break while still keeping the heart rate up.  Plus, there is nothing quite like coastal air to clear the mind and reset focus.

every route, every pedal stroke and every step is building towards that reducing that finish line time.  Thanks for the sponsors so far, its the motivation I need when the incline gets tough!

Week 1: The Blistering Beginning

Today I kicked off my grand walking journey with what was meant to be a “gentle warm-up”—a 40-minute walk to work, then round to good old Whaley, then home again. Easy, right? Wrong. My feet have already filed a formal complaint.

Blisters: 1
Rhyanne: 0

Apparently, my feet didn’t get the memo that this was just the beginning of months of training. But hey, if I can survive today’s unplanned friction festival, I can survive anything November throws at me (right? *please say yes*).

On the bright side, it’s all for an incredible cause—and every step, limp, and comically dramatic hobble is getting me closer to the big day.

Send blister plasters. And snacks.

That's it then

So today I did a thing...I have signed up to my first big fundraiser. I'm not a runner or a skydiver but I love walking and I love fundraising. So I signed myself up for this trek from Petersfield to Pompey in November. I best get a training plan in place to make sure I'm not too far behind at the event 🤔

Any tips welcome of course

Support my Race to Remember

This year I will be taking part in Race to Remember to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking on Race to Remember to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support.
