A milestone in the right direction

£1000

Another milestone reached, just over halfway.  This could only be achieved by the tremendous generosity of you who have donated so far.

The journey is fatr from over though, so if you haven't, please donate whatever you can and help keep a light on.

A milestone in the right direction

I'm humbled and overwhelmed. In less than 48hrs, your kind generosity has already enabled me to raise just over £500 for Combat Stress. Although there is still a long way to go to reach my target, the target is achievable.

Thank you and respect to all who have contributed so far.

My story

Remembrance Day is over for this year, we fell silent for 2 minutes to remember all those who lost their lives and their lights went out.

However, Remembrance does not end for many veterans who still live on and carry with them harrowing memories that can never be erased.  Their lights are on but they don't always shine as bright as they could.  Regrettably some choose to turn their own lights out.

I joined the armed forces in 1985 aged 16.  I went on to serve two tours in Northern Ireland where I witnessed and experienced many things.  At the age of 19 an event occurred where 6 friends/comrades were killed and their lights went out.  See link for this event:

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17myXrsfJq/

Those who know me would say I'm a happy, cheeky, smiley chappie.  My light still shines but I won't deny I still sometimes suffer,  I do cry, I do wish my light went out with my comrades.  But I also manage to cope and battle on.

Unfortunately, for many, it is too much and they need additional help and support to keep their lights on.   As such I hope you can sponsor me to raise vital funds for Combat Stress as I plan to run 44 miles across the Normandy Beeches in June 2025 for the D-Day Challenge.  This will certainly be a challenge for myself as the longest running event I've ever done is a half marathon.

I have started with an initial donation myself of £19.44.  The sum represents the year 1944 (D-Day), 19 for the age I was when I lost my friends and 44 for the 44 miles I will run.  I have also set my target as £1944.  With your support I would love to surpass this target.  Please donate what you can to help keep the lights on for veterans who suffer mental illness caused by fighting in various campaigns around the world.

Support my D-Day Challenge

In honour of our forefathers as well as current servicemen who have bravely fought to protect our way of life, I will be taking on the D-Day Challenge to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

The D-Day 44 Challenge commemorates the 1944 Allied invasion of occupied France. I will be heading to Normandy, to race across its picturesque beaches, finishing at the historic Pegasus Bridge on the anniversary of D-Day, 6 June 2025.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking on D-Day Challenge to help take vital strides towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support.
