And We're off!

We got up early and made out first walk of the challenge! Only 6k, but there is a reason. Last week, we got attacked by a loose large breed dog. Thor has done me proud, I was worried it would set him way back, it's knocked his confidence but he's coping very, very well. Unfortunately during the attack I did sustain a few knocks and bumps, as a result my sciatic nerve seems to be trapped. My right hand side isn't the best.
Nonetheless, we are ploughing onwards, we will pace ourselves over the month of November. At some stage we will make it to Hill60 at Redmires, the training trenches for those who went to the Somme. We always pause for a few minutes of reflection when we head that way.
We will be filling our social media with some of the fantastic views we encounter on our travels. Fingers crossed it stays nice and dry!
Thankyou all so much for your generous donations.

Reflecting on support

I wanted to make a blog entry to explain a little about why I am taking part in this challenge,  Those of you who know me well, know that I come from a family with a history of uniformed service spanning 4 generations. When I was growing up my dad always stressed the importance of respecting the sacrifice of service that many make.
It hit home to me recently just how PTSD can devastate a life. One of my friends, who served in the U.S Navy, saw and experienced things during his tours that left him with CPTSD.  A few months ago, the stress and pressure it put him under finally took it's toll, he had a massive stoke and now requires 24h nursing care, he can't speak and sadly no longer remembers any of his friends.
I want to help support our veterans here in the U.K. get the support they need.
Mental health is a largely overlooked aspect of our overall health, yet it is so vital to our very wellbeing. For those returning from service, the impact on mental health can be massive and long term, getting the right support can make the difference between returning to everyday life or hitting rock bottom and finding themselves in a dark, dark place. Every donation we receive during the challenge will make a difference to a veteran. So please do consider a donation, every bit goes towards our total.

Excited!

I honestly didn't think we'd get to the stage we could complete a challenge like this. Thor has spent 2 years working really hard to overcome his fears, it's been quite a journey for all of us.
Originally he came to us to be trained as our assistance dog, one off lead dog attack later and he became fearful of other dogs, walking him was very stressful for everyone including Thor. Two years of bonding and hard work later here we are! Thor enjoys his walks and his world is getting bigger every day.
We are doing this because we want to be able to support others back into enjoying life again, especially those who have given so much at such a great cost. Thankyou for taking the time to read and we do hope you consider a donation, every one will help to support a veterans mental health.
