Our helpline is the first step for veterans in getting the help they need
For many veterans, the Combat Stress Helpline is the first step toward recovery, offering compassionate support for mental health issues like suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, and trauma. A call to our helpline provides the first step for veterans to begin their journey toward better mental health in a safe, supportive environment.
not just a call to a helpline
For many veterans a call to our Helpline is but the first step in getting the support they need and deserve. Combat Stress provides tailored clinical services, including psychological therapy, peer support, and specialised treatment programmes for veterans facing complex mental health challenges. Delivered both in-person and online, these services offer the tools and care needed to support recovery, improve wellbeing, and empower veterans to move forward with resilience and confidence.
DEMAND HAS NEVER BEEN HIGHER
Each year, thousands of veterans call the Combat Stress helpline for support with PTSD, depression, and other issues. Over the last three years demand for our services has increased 44%
This high demand underscores the helpline’s vital role in veteran mental health, offering guidance, empathy, and a referral network that addresses each caller’s specific needs. The Helpline not only provides relief in moments of distress but also connects veterans to further care, reinforcing its role as a critical, life-changing service in the community.

"What happened to me in Iraq didn’t really affect me at the time, I just carried on. You don’t have time to think about it and mental health in men wasn’t a big thing back then.”
Andy left the Army in 2007 and went back to Manchester, where he grew up. It took a while to settle into civilian life, but 10 years after leaving the Army he started to experience mental health issues.
In 2022 a friend’s girlfriend suggested Andy called Combat Stress. Recognising he needed help, he called our Helpline a couple of weeks later, before being diagnosed with PTSD. He went on to have online treatment, including our Cope Using Your Senses group, which is aimed at supporting veterans in managing their symptoms.
