Support my March in March

This year I will be taking on March in March to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For almost a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I’m taking on March in March to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support.

My Updates

Final post

Tuesday 30th Mar
Just a note of sincere appreciation  for all the donations and messages of support. Thanks to an anonymous donation of over £1000 we made the target of £10 for every mile. So whoever and wherever that person is again thank you.

Also it must be said that I couldn’t have done this without the support of fantastic wife and family. She has not only put up with a tired, grumpy and at times utterly miserable husband but managed to push me through the difficult days.

Similarly I couldn’t have done it without Dave Bedells and Darren Campbell.

All that said for the final time I would like to reiterate that it was never about the money. This was about making change, having our veterans recognised and for someone very close to me who I’ve thought about for that extra mile every day.

Day 13

Saturday 13th Mar
Another 18 miles down today.

Due to work commitments I will be away from the 29th of this month. Hence the small team that are assisting me in ensuring that we reach the tgt of 341 miles. So far I have personally ran 160 miles in 13 days. I intend to keep pushing until the last safe moment before I’m away.

Again thank you

Tired

Wednesday 10th Mar
Just realised I’d already mentioned the small team, apologies, I am really tired 😂

Day 10

Wednesday 10th Mar
Real struggle now to get round the 11 miles. However had an inspiring thank you for what we are doing from the wife of an ex service person. She said Combat Stress had really helped her husband through some dark times and with every step we are helping those in need. Which was just what I needed to hear today. You might notice the mileage has shot up. I have now created a small team to assist in raising donations and contribution to the mileage. After all this about helping one another as opposed to standing alone.

Day 9

Tuesday 9th Mar
Massive thanks for all the support and donations so far, created a small team of legends to assist in raising the profile and adding extra miles

Steady 13 for me today

First 13 were awful 😂

Day 8

Monday 8th Mar
Darren supporting me again, 96 miles done

Strained smile

Sunday 7th Mar

Day 7

Sunday 7th Mar
18 miles done today taking me to 85 total

Day 6

Saturday 6th Mar
That’s 67 miles in 6 days, bit tired but all good

Day 5

Friday 5th Mar
56 miles done

Day 4

Thursday 4th Mar
Give it another week and I’ll need a new chin strap.

Day 3

Wednesday 3rd Mar
Ticking over, first 4 miles were absolutely disgusting then got into it. Apologies in advance, I’ll have to split the distance tomorrow. Got an early start with a late finish.

Training load

Tuesday 2nd Mar
😂 two days in and my watch is having a breakdown

Day 2

Tuesday 2nd Mar
Had the pleasure of running with one of my oldest friends Cpl Darren Campbell. Steady miles in the bag, remembering those we’ve lost.

Day one

Monday 1st Mar
11 done with a steady 8:30 average, finished with 121 burpees, 11 for every mile and life lost. Strong start with some incredible donations. Please share, and finally it really isn’t about the money raised. It’s sharing the gen that help is out there. 👊🏻

11 miles a day for 31 days

Wednesday 10th Feb

In 2019, 10 UK service personnel are recorded as having taken their own lives. There is no physical data recorded that stipulates how many veterans have committed suicide. Combat Stress, whose HQ is local to RAF Leeming (Catterick) is the only charity that has a 24-hr helpline for service personnel who need immediate intervention. Combat Stress are the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century, they’ve helped former servicemen and women deal with trauma-related mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).They’re on a mission to raise awareness that invisible injuries can be just as hard to cope with as physical ones. So when a veteran is having a tough time, they’re there to help them tackle the past and take on the future.

To this end, I intend to conduct a charity fund raising event in aid of Combat Stress in March 2021. My intention is to run 11 miles a day for 31 days, each day dedicated to the memory of 1 of the 10 suicides recorded within 2019. Plus, an extra mile for a close friend. The total distance for the month is 341 miles. I hope to raise £10:00 for each mile. However the ultimate aim is to have veterans and their ongoing battles recognised.
