Why I decided to support Combat Stress
Combat Stress is the UK's leading veterans' mental health charity. Although I have no military background at all, Combat Stress helped me, personally, immensely, by giving me free access to their learning platform and so, I managed to understand myself a lot better, and then professionally, by helping me to understand better some of my patients- veterans and not only.
As an example, and briefly, I had a patient, veteran, a while ago, who was extremely difficult to talk to, let alone to examine him.
He wouldn't talk, wouldn't engage and told me straight that I'm not to go anywhere near his face. He was struggling with CPTSD, which was disclosed by his wife.
As an ophthalmologist, not touching face is impossible, if I'm to examine someone properly.
Long story short, I did touch his face after all, and I managed to examine him properly and to come up with a management plan.
This was possible because of Combat Stress training, which, I have to say it's amazing.
This training changed my way of seeing patients, changed my way of dealing with certain life challenges, and lead to a few other courses that got me Trauma Certified.
To have access to their learning platform, you just have to send an email and express your interest, and need to be working with veterans or be one or be part of a charity working with veterans.
It's absolutely free🙂
Because of all this, I decided to support this charity by walking 100 miles in May, and hopefully, collect some money for them as well.
I'd be very grateful if you could support me!!😊🙏🪖🫡
I'm taking on 100 Miles in May for Combat Stress
This year I'm taking on 100 Miles in May to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.
Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.
I’m taking vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.
Thank you so much for your support.
