That looks a long way....
I think I've romanticised the experience since completing in 2021....Support my Race to Remember
As those that know me can see, I’m not built for running; but a few years ago I started in order to try and lose some weight and live a bit longer. One thing led to another, and before I knew it I had ran a few marathons.
Then in a moment of madness I signed up to support a cause with no comprehension of the scale of the physical challenge involved, and to run nearly 50 miles in an ultra marathon, from Aldershot (home of the British Army) to Portsmouth (Home of the Royal Navy).
So now the important bit. I think you should share the pain with me, just in your wallet instead of your legs.
I am running for combat stress.
Combat stress is a charity who help former servicemen and women deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.
They provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict to give them hope and a future.
Adam, my step son, was a Corporal in the Royal Dragoon Guards. He completed two tours of Afghanistan, and was awarded the NATO meritorious service medal. After his second tour, unbeknown to Sarah and most of the people closest to him, he received counselling for a year provided by the Army.
Outwardly Adam always showed confidence, spirit, and was the centre of any group he was in.
On his 25th birthday, soon after his counselling ended, he succumbed to the silent battle many didn’t know he was fighting, and took his own life.
Sarah lost her beautiful son and our whole family were left devastated.
This is why the work Combat Stress supports is so important.
So dig deep, sponsor me, and I promise to supply pictures of a fat bloke running!
