Support my Move for our Military

This year I will be taking on Move for our Military to raise vital funds for life-changing support for veterans.

Combat Stress and SSAFA are two of the UK's leading charities for veterans' support. For over a century, both these charities have helped former servicemen and women deal with a wide range of issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder or day-to-day issues. Both charities provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

I am taking on Move for our Military to help take vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need.

Thank you so much for your support.

Summary of Activity and Donations

Friday 13th Aug
In support of this fantastic initiative and on the ‘spur of the moment’ (!), I committed to complete minimum distances in 3 different disciplines over the 3 weeks available to me and threw in a climb of Snowdon with the family (….  and TJ the dog) for good measure on the way. I finished these challenges on the final day with a 90 km Sportive ride in Suffolk. The ride was a blast but ‘Snowdon Legs’ from the climb a few days earlier did ‘make the eyes water’ on the hills!!

In summary, over that 3 week period:

I completed 11.25 km (7 miles) of swimming against a target of 10 km, which equates to 450 lengths and around 9,000 strokes – not bad I thought for someone who can by no means profess to be a good swimmer!

I cycled 405 km, which translates to over 90,000 pedal strokes.

Rowed 2,000m above my 20,000 target, pulling close to 4,000 strokes.

Accumulated 26,491 steps on Snowdon, ascending and descending around 3,500 ft over 10 miles or so – no ‘short leg’ jokes pse!

Looks like the total of donations to my page will easily exceed £1500 including gift aid and one of my riding buddies, who joined me for the sportive launched his own Combat Stress page in recognition and raised over £600 so £2000+ at least for a great cause, and I expect a couple of corporate matching donations of individual contributions to follow in the weeks ahead.

For everybody who has donated - a massive thanks!!
